Struggling to Pay Your Monthly Electric/Gas Bill? 

92296 the_stress_Do you find yourself getting stressed and overwhelmed each month when it’s time to pay your electric or natural gas bill? If you live in the southern California area, the following program may help ease your worries.

The California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program serves the southern part of California, and offers discounts for income-qualified customers. CARE is funded through a rate surcharge paid by all other utility customers. If you qualify for their services, CARE will provide a 20% discount off of your monthly electric and natural gas bill. Along with the 20% discount, CARE also offers a $15.00 discount on the Service Establishment Charge, for those who qualify and are approved within 90 days of starting new gas service. After your completed application is approved by Southern California Gas Company, you will then receive your discount.

If you or another person in your household is currently receiving benefits from any of the following programs, you may qualify for CARE services:

  • Medi-Cal/Medicaid
  • Food Stamps (SNAP)
  • TANF (AFDC)
  • Women, Infants & Children (WIC)
  • Healthy Families Categories A&B
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
