Although symptoms of several disabilities and/or illnesses can be controlled and managed through medications and lifestyle changes, many adults are still often unable to fully enjoy and pursue “normal” day-to-day activities. Through the services offered by the following organization, individuals with disabilities throughout the Memphis, TN area can receive the tools they need to become active and independent members of the community:

With a mission to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, Shelby Residential & Vocational Services, Inc. (SRVS) has served as a beacon of hope for over 50 years. As West Tennessee’s largest service provider for individuals with disabilities, SRVS strengthens both families and the community by offering comprehensive care to individuals with disabilities in a supportive environment. Known by their reputation of providing quality services and providing individuals with options and opportunities, SRVS offers several services and programs that assist individuals in becoming active and helps them to accomplish their own goals and dreams. To be eligible for services through SRVS, individuals must have a disability, be a resident of West Tennessee and meet eligibility conditions as established by the Tennessee Division of Intellectual Disabilities Services. To determine eligibility for SRVS, individuals must submit an application; complete a psychological examination as well as a vocational evaluation. Once eligibility for SRVS has been determined, individuals are granted admission on a 90-day trial basis to evaluate the appropriateness of the placement, the individual’s interest in the program and the time for all to adjust.
