ADA Paratransit
Do you have a physical or mental disability that limits your ability to travel around town? The Coast Transit Authority (CTA) has an easily accessible transit service to provide individuals with disabilities an easy way to get around town. The service is called ADA Paratransit which is a curb-to-curb service. In order to qualify for the service there are a few requirements individuals must meet. To use ADA Paratransit: • Individuals must have a physical or mental impairment that prevents you from getting on, getting off or riding any handicapped-accessible bus by yourself. Individuals must need help from someone besides a wheelchair lift operator. • Individuals must need the use of a wheelchair lift or other boarding assistance device and can board, ride and exit the bus with help. ADA Paratransit is only justified under this category if, for some reason, a boarding device can't be used at your regular bus stop on a CTA fixed route. • Individuals must have a specific condition that prevents them from traveling to and from a CTA bus stop. If you believe you qualify for the ADA Paratransit service and wish to apply, applications for certification are available at the CTA office or you can apply through local area agencies that serve the disabled. ADA Paratransit services are provided by appointment only. Service request must be made one to four days before you plan to use the service. However, if plans change and you need to cancel your appointment, it is suggested to call and cancel your reservation at least one hour before the scheduled pick up time. All ADA Paratransit services are "pay-as-you-go" with a fee of $2 per fare zone. For travelers convenience CTA sells ADA Paratransit passes. Riders can purchase passes in sheets of ten passes for $20. Each pass is good for one fare zone. All passes are non refundable and there is no credit line available.
