Tender Love and Care

For the past 25 years, a homeless shelter in Cincinnati has offered tender love and care to those who have had a history of emotional and/or mental disabilities. Some services include obtaining benefits for residents, offering social and recreational activities, and serving as an advocate for additional services needed or entitled to the shelter's residents. Tender Mercies' programs consist of transitional housing, outreach, permanent housing, resource coordination and quick access housing. Listed below are summaries of each program: Transitional Housing • The goal of the program is to help individuals live more independently in the future • Housing is located at 29 West 12th Street, Cincinnati, OH. Outreach • Tender Mercies outreach workers helps to build trusting relationships and assist in finding proper care for individuals found living in parks, abandoned buildings, cars, etc. Permanent Housing • This is provided in five of six of Tender Mercies' buildings • The resident is allowed to stay as long as they need a home while receiving case management services, health care, employment services, and psyciatric services Resource Coordination • Residents are paired with a Community Resource Manager who helps them navigate various benefits and entitlements. • The goal of this is to help residents address the financial aspect of recovery from a mental illness and to help find meaningful activities for self-fullfillment Quick Access Housing • Tender Mercies works with local social service agencies to provide 12 beds which can be accessed on the same day a referral by an agency case manager is received. • To qualify for quick access housing, individuals must be an adult resident of Hamilton County and connected to a case management agency within the Hamilton County mental health system • This type of housing gives the resident an opportunity to develop a more permanent housing plan while being provided a temporary home.
