Heart of the City
Located in the "heart of the city", the New Orleans Mission is the largest service provider for individuals who are homeless or in need of help in the vast New Orleans area. With a mission to serve the poor, the needy and the homeless, the Mission provides physical, social and spiritual services that offer individuals the opportunity to establish and restore themselves in society. The Mission's services consist of: Rehabilitation Education Center Employment Support Housing Referrals Clothing distribution Laundry Mail Drop In addition to these services, the Mission offers several programs. Listed below are brief descriptions of each program: Meals & Overnight Shelter - The Mission provides emergency overnight shelter for up to 148 individuals, however on freeze night, shelter is provided for anyone who comes to the Mission. Intake begins at 5pm Mon-Thurs and 8pm Fri-Sun. Discipleship Program - This program offers men who are ready to change their lives the opportunity to become productive members of the community. The discipleship program is an intense one-year program for men with substance abuse issues. As a participant in the program, you are expected to achieve defined goals during each of the four 90-day phases. Transitional Work Program - This program was created for individuals who experience a sudden financial crisis. Through this program, participants with full-time employment are provided with temporary housing and meals for up to four (4) months. The program aids participants in saving their income to regain financial security and obtain permanent housing. Medical Clinic -The Mission provides a free in-house medical clinic to all residents and those in need of medical help. The clinic is open every Thurs between 1:30pm and 3:30pm.
