Out With Old; In With the New
Has the holiday season worn out your refrigerator? Are you in need of a new one but don't have the funds to purchase one? Don't fret! The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) offer its customers in the Low Income Discount Program the opportunity to swap their old, inefficient refrigerators with a new energy saving model. Customers who are participating in the Low Income Discount Rate Program and are currently on rate 86 should receive a letter from the LADWP informing them on their eligibility to receive a new refrigerator through the Low Income Refrigerator Exchange Program. Once the eligibility letter has been received, customers are encouraged to call the number listed within the letter to set up an inspection appointment. Prior to swapping any refrigerator, an inspection must be performed to ensure that the proper outlet is being used. If an improper outlet is in use, the customer will be given the opportunity to have their outlets corrected. Eligibility for the Low Income Refrigerator Exchange Program is determined based on the following guidelines: •Customer must be a current participant in the LADWP residential Low Income Discount Rate Program •Customer's refrigerator must be at least 10 years old and at least 14.0 cubic feet in volume •Customer's outlet for refrigerator must be grounded (3-prong) •Customer must be willing to give up or exchange current refrigerator to be environmentally recycled If you are LADWP customer currently not enrolled in the Low Income Discount Rate Program but feel that you may qualify, contact your local LADWP office. Interested customers can apply to join the program; however you will be required to provide proof of income.
