Fighting Poverty One Program at a Time
Here's another service that may be useful to those in Jackson, MS waiting for their Social Security Disability benefits to process: Recognizing a need within the community, a group of concerned and dedicated citizens teamed up and formed Madison Countians Allied Against Poverty (MadCAAP). Devoted to assist families living in poverty throughout Madison County, MadCAAP offers several services and programs designed to assist the poor, elderly and/or handicapped individuals. These programs include a housing program, emergency assistance, food pantry and a clothes and needs closet. Below is a brief description of each program: Housing Program - MadCAAP's housing program consist of two parts: Housing Repairs and Krista Cottage.
Housing Repairs- Repairs typically include: broken windows, kitchen repairs, floor and/or wall repairs, bathroom repairs and floor and/or ceiling repairs. Krista Cottage - Homes are built for low-income families with children. A typical newly built home includes kitchen appliances, loft to accommodate up to 3 beds, large family room, private bedroom and full bath.Emergency Assistance- Families and individuals are offered assistance with utilities, prescription medications, rent and groceries. Clothes and Needs Closet - Provides clothing and household items at no charge to families and individuals who need them. Food Pantry- Boxes of groceries are distributed to families in need through the food pantry program at no charge.
