Visualizing a Brighter Future

Here's an organization that may be useful to those in the Mobile, AL area with a disabling visual impairment:

For various reasons and due to several medical conditions many individuals suffer from vision loss. Individuals who suffer from a disabling visual impairment are often prevented from driving, caring for themselves, going places without an escort and performing many job functions. There are many organizations and research groups who are currently testing and developing potential therapies to treat those who suffer from disabling visual impairments. Some organizations also offer adaptive devices and various aids that help to enhance the quality of life and make communication easier for those with vision loss.

One organization dedicated to helping those with low vision and blindness is the Community Services for Vision Rehabilitation (CSVR) in Mobile, Alabama. The clinic provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluations of visual functions to all of its patients. These evaluations are performed by professional Medical Doctors, Optometrist, Occupational Therapists, Ophthalmic technicians, Computer Specialist and/or others. In addition to providing evaluations, CSVR also works in collaboration with other state agencies, regional and natural resources to provide clients with aids and adaptive devices.

To ensure that every patient receives all the available resources, CSVR accepts anyone with a vision impairment regardless of their ability to pay or their insurance status. They also operate a loan policy program for many of its adaptive devices. This program allows individuals who, due to various economic reasons, are unable to purchase adaptive devices that will help to enhance their life and make communication easier.
