Going Red for American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month and today The Cochran Firm Disability Lawyers are going red in honor of those with various cardiovascular disease conditions. Heat disease, also known as cardiovascular disease can cause serious physical limitations and are one of the most common causes of disability today. Cardiovascular disease describes a large spectrum of disorders that can affect an individual's heart muscles and/or blood vessels. Conditions on the spectrum of disorders can include: Arrhythmia Cholesterol Congenital Defects Diabetes Heart Attack Heart Failure High Blood Pressure Stroke Cardiac Arrest Cardiovascular Conditions Metabolic Syndrome Peripheral Artery Disease Often times heart and blood vessel problems are a result of damage to the cardiovascular system through congenital defects or lifestyle and environmental factors. Based on an individual's need and the severity of their condition, there are a variety of treatments available. Treatments can include insertion of a pacemaker, radiation treatment to clear blocked arteries, heart transplants and/or cardioversion (electroshock therapy). However, lifestyle changes and healthy choices can also help improve the condition of an individual's heart and arteries. Through their Life Check and Simple 7 program, the American Heart Association is encouraging and reminding individuals that it's never too late to start making better choices for their health. Life Check and Simple 7 were created to give individuals a simple way of learning where they are on the road to good health. All participants involved in the program are encouraged to take the "My Life Check Assessment". The results of the assessment provide individuals with their own personal heart score and life plan. It also includes seven recommended areas of focus and an action plan that is customized to each individual's lifestyle and health outlook. Through these programs and many others, the mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stoke. It's never too late to start making better choices to protect your heart health.
