Lending a Hand
The following organization may be helpful for individuals in the Dayton, OH area who are in need of housing assistance: St. Vincent de Paul provides several services to individuals in the Dayton community. Through its various services and programs, the organization offers Gateway Shelters for men, women and children who are in need of shelter. St. Vincent de Paul operates two shelters for those in need, The Gateway Shelter for Woman & Families, which houses 220 beds, and The Gettysburg for men which houses 178 beds. Both shelters are open and operated everyday on a 24/7 basis and offers guest a safe and clean environment to sleep. Guests at each shelter are provided with a place to take a shower, three meals a day plus snacks, laundry facilities, free clothing and personal care items, an after-school tutoring program for school aged kids, case management and a starter kit when more permanent housing is found. The starter kit includes household items such as towels, dishers, glassware, utensils, pots and pans, sheets, and if available, small appliances. In addition to the Gateway Shelters, St. Vincent de Paul also provides assistance to those in the poverty throughout the Dayton community. Through their Conferences, Community Stores and Community Food Pantry they provide eligible individuals with furniture, clothing, household goods and nutritious food.
