Help for the Community
This organization may be useful to those in the Central Ohio area who are diagnosed with diabetes: Did you know that approximatetly 24 million people in the United States have diabetes, yet more than a third of them don't know it? What about the fact that 830,000 Ohioans have diabetes which ranks the state as number eight for those who have been diagnosed with the disease? Due to these staggering numbers, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association has established a goal of helping those living with diabetes detect their condition, prevent onset and complications as well as learn to how live better with the challenge of diabetes. Founded by local physicians over 45 years ago, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association is not affiliated with any national organization which allows it to solely focus its services on Franklin County as well as 10 outlying counties of Central Ohio. A few of the services offered throughout these counties include one-minute diabetes detection screenings, summer camps for kids, informational sessions for adults living with diabetes, financial resources information and support programs. The Association also offers free diabetes screenings every Tuesday for individuals 18 and older through their Columbus office. Screenings are also performed throughout the Central Ohio area at various locations each month. To find a screening location nearest you, call (614) 884-4400 or 1-800-422-7946. No appointments are necessary. One in ten people in the Central Ohio community will develop diabetes and the number of those who have been diagnosed since 2009 is rapidly increasing. There are many people who are unaware of the fact that they have diabetes. Be informed! Call the Central Ohio Diabetes Association for more information at (614) 884-4400.
