The following organization may be helpful for individuals and their families in the Dayton, OH area who have mental and/or developmental disabilities: Those with mental and developmental disabilities sometimes need hope for a brighter tomorrow. At the Brighter Tomorrow Foundation, children and adults with disabilities are given a chance to shine in their lives. The purpose of Dayton's Brighter Tomorrow Foundation (BFT) is to benefit children and adults with mental and developmental disabilities in Montgomery County. Developmental disabilities is a term used to describe a diverse group of chronic conditions that are caused by a variety of physical and/or mental impairments. Those diagnosed with this type of disability may have problems performing day to day activities such as mobility, learning, language and independent living. Developmental disabilities can occur at anytime up until an individual reaches 22 years old. After someone is diagnosed with a developmental disability, the condition can typically last a lifetime. Through a competitive grant process, the Foundation promotes quality of life issues such as housing, education, adaptive devices, recreation and other designated requests through a competitive grant process. More information about the services the foundation provides is listed below: Housing Assistance ranges from enhancement of day-to-day living conditions in safe environments to emergency shelter, improving personal care options, and/or fulfilling requests for special equipment Adaptive Devices This includes battery powered lifts, accessible vans for local transportation, exercise and therapy equipment, special tools and car seats for kids. Education The foundation uses the grant money it receives to provide computers, cameras, software, projection and recording equipment, art supplies, etc. which encourage and make new working and learning options possible. Recreation The foundation also uses its grant money to promote physical fitness and socialization activities.
