More Than Housing
With the help of two grants offered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Augusta Housing Authority provides residents with more than housing. Through the two HUD provided grants, AHA residents are given the opportunity to participate in programs that enable them to achieve their goals of reaching economic independence and self-sufficiency.
Programs offered:Under the Family Self-Sufficiency Service Coordinator Grant, AHA is able to offer the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program. Open to all residents who are current participants of AHA's Section 8 program, the goal of the FSS program is to develop a comprehensive program that gives participants the skills and experience they need to establish self-sufficiency. Participants of AHA's FSS program are provided with case management services to help them achieve goals such as obtaining degrees, employment or qualifying for homeownership.
Residents who currently receive housing assistance through AHA's Public Housing program are also provided with opportunities to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Through the Resident Opportunities for Self -Sufficiency Grant, AHA offers a variety of opportunities for residents to fulfill their community service requirement while at the same time, enhancing their lives. Under the grant, the Economic Opportunity Authority provides life skills training, employment training and childcare services to current AHA Public Housing Participants.
