The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) is administered through the District of Columbia’s Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Income Maintenance Administration (IMA). The ERAP program was established to help low-income residents who are facing various housing emergencies. Through ERAP, funding is provided to assist qualified households in paying for overdue rent, late costs, and court fees. The program also assists qualified families and/or individuals moving to new homes in paying security or damage deposits and first month’s rent.
The amount of ERAP assistance paid on behalf of qualified families and/or individuals depends on the household’s income and available resources. ERAP payments awarded to qualified households can only be used once per year. To qualify for ERAP assistance, individuals must:
