As the holiday season approaches, many families and individuals are faced with the heartbreaking reality of being unable to afford holiday traditions due to various circumstances. Thankfully, several organizations, communities and local neighbors have joined together to ensure that no family is left out of the traditional holiday celebrations. For your convenience, we have provided a list of FREE Thanksgiving Dinners that are available to families, individuals with disabilities, the homeless and those in need:

Atlanta, Georgia

Hosea Feed the Hungry & Homeless (HFTH) will host its annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Georgia World Congress Center.  In addition to providing a free traditional dinner, HFTH will also provide a phone center, a clothing center, a beauty and barber area, showers, legal aid, medical care, and entertainment. Dinners will also be delivered to individuals with disabilities and the elderly within the area. The dinner will take place on Thursday, November 22, 2012. Birmingham, Alabama

pumpkinEvery year, the Jimmie Hale Mission prepares and serves a traditional Thanksgiving meal to those in need. Baltimore, Maryland

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake will hold its 57th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner from 11:45 to 2:45 pm today at the Baltimore Convention Center. Additionally, in Annapolis, at Asbury United Methodist Church, a Thanksgiving Dinner will be served today from 11:45 to 2:45 pm.  For more information, call (410) 837-1800.

Cleveland, Ohio

Dayton, Ohio

The Fourth Annual Feast of Giving is funded by local sponsors will take place on Thursday, November 22 from 11 am to 2 pm. Detroit, Michigan

The Senior Alliance’s Holiday Meals Program (SAHM) is providing hot, home-delivered meals for individuals with disabilities and seniors 60 years of age or older. Dinners will be delivered door-to-door on Thursday, November 22, 2011. For more information about the program, call (734) 727-2830.

This Thanksgiving, Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac will be hosting a traditional meal with all the trimmings at 12 pm and 4 pm on November 22.  Centerstage Hall, also in Pontiac will be serving a turkey dinner at 7 pm on Thanksgiving.  The homeless are able to spend the night and wake up to a hot breakfast and access to a clothes closet to pick new items.  For more information call 1 (855) 435-7425.

Los Angeles, California

Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) will be spreading cheer and providing a warm and healthy holiday meal for the community, individuals who are homeless and those in need. USHS will host its annual “Thanksgiving Dinner-In-The-Park  on Thursday, November 22, 2011 in Pasadena’s Central Park. Memphis, Tennessee

This year marks the 28th year for the City of Memphis’ Thanksgiving Day Dinner. The dinner will be held on Thursday, November 22, 2011 from 10 am until 1 pm at the Memphis Cook Convention Center. Free transportation will be provided by MATA from 9 am to 1 pm. In addition to receiving a Thanksgiving dinner, individuals will also be able to receive free health screenings and flu shots through the Baptist Operation Outreach Mobile Health Care Clinic and place FREE phone calls to anywhere in the US through Verizon  who will be onsite. There will also be a distribution of hats, gloves, scarves, socks, snacks and water for the homeless. Mobile, Alabama

The Mobile Area Salvation Army Command will host its annual Thanksgiving Meal on Thursday, November 22, 2011 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. The meal will be held at its headquarters on Dauphin Street and will include traditional favorites such as: ham, turkey, yams, cakes, pies and dinner rolls. Also in the Mobile area, through a joint partnership with Foley Elementary, several Baldwin County residents have joinedturkey together to create “Turkey Take-Out”. Turkey Take-Out delivers holiday meals to area families who can’t afford the traditional “turkey and trimmings”. This year, like all the years before, the Waterfront Rescue Mission/Mobile Mission will host its Annual Thanksgiving Day Banquet The dinner will be held on Thanksgiving Day and will include a traditional holiday feast  for the homeless and those in need. Washington, DC

The 13th annual Safeway Feast of Sharing will provide a free traditional Thanksgiving meal to District of Columbia residents in need on Wednesday.  Doors will open at 10 am, and dinner is served from 11:30-1:30 pm at the Washington Convention Center.  In addition to the free meal, the event will feature a job fair, free clothing and free health screenings.
