Discounts for the Disabled and Adults Ages 60+

The Buckeye State is known for offering its senior and disabled citizens a variety of programs to make their lives a little better.  The following program is a great example:

More than two million Ohioans are eligible for the Golden Buckeye card, honored at 20,000 businesses statewide. Golden Buckeye cardholders have ssavingsaved an estimated $2 billion since 1976. All Ohioans age 60 or older, as well as adults ages 18-59 who have disabilities as defined by Social Security, are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye card. Visit http://aging.ohio.gov/goldenbuckeye to learn more.

Merchants of all types (restaurants, retail stores, vehicle mechanic/tire shops, pharmacies, grocers and more) voluntarily offer special savings to cardholders.  The special savings could be a promotion like free towing or dollar amounts off products and/or fees. Or, the special savings could come in the form of a percentage of products and/or services.  To view which businesses are participating in your area, visit http://aging.ohio.gov/goldenbuckeye/newdefault.aspx.

If you don’t have convenient access to a computer to research which businesses honor the Golden Buckeye card, most participating merchants post the Golden Buckeye logo on their door, in their window or at the check-out.

It is important to know that merchants receive no compensation for participating in the program.  With that being said, please thank businesses for their participation with your patronage; you can save a little money in the process.

Ohio residents, who hold current Ohio Drivers Licenses or State ID cards, automatically receive a Golden Buckeye card in the month of their 60th birthday.  If you are 18-59 years of age, and qualify due to a disability, you can apply for the card at most libraries and senior centers.
