The following organization provides a variety of treatments and solutions for low-income individuals in the Birmingham, AL area:

Since they were founded in 1972, the local service organization, Aletheia House, has been providing substance abuse treatment and prevention services to at-risk individuals living in Greater Birmingham communities. When coming up with a name, the organization chose the Greek word “Aletheia,” which means “truth” or “the state of not being hidden.” Through acknowledging the many issues that the public faces today, Aletheia House has expanded their services to include HIV prevention, life coaching, counseling, employment training and placement, affordable housing, youth programs, and assistance for veterans.  Specifically, a few of the programs they offer include:

Women's Hope and Mother’s Hope – These two programs geared toward women offer comprehensive substance abuse treatment.  Women’s Hope is an outpatient program, whereas Mother’s Hope is a residential treatment program.  Both programs aim to address specific needs of their female patients by offering therapy and counseling in multiple setting options and mediums.  Childcare, transportation, employment assistance, and life skills coaching are also offered at no cost to the patients.

Men's Residential and Power to ChangeThese two programs for men offer resources to help men combat addiction, unemployment and homelessness.  By working to recover from these long standing histories, these men are able to strengthen their capacities to lead healthy, productive and self-sufficient lives.  Some of the services offered at little to no cost are residential care, housing assistance, counseling, employment placement, case management resources, transportation, stress management training, HIV prevention and life skills coaching.

Rural Treatment Services – The problems facing rural Alabamians often do not get as much exposure as those present in urban communities. To assist people struggling in rural Alabama get beneficial services, Aletheia House provides treatment services and case management for drug courts in 15 rural counties across the state of Alabama.
