lady with computerJob Boards for People with Disabilities

Employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Many people with disabilities desire to work but are unable to locate employers who will accommodate their disability. The three job boards reviewed here help solve the problem by matching employers willing to make accommodations for people with disabilities with those seeking employment.

DisABLEdperson.com is a nation-wide internet job board, but unlike some internet job boards that simply aggregate listings from other websites, each of the employment positions listed on DisABLEdperson.com was entered on this particular website by an employer or their representative indicating that they specifically desire to hire people with disabilities. This job board now lists over 35,000 jobs all across the country. In addition they award college scholarships to students with disabilities each spring and fall semester as a way of giving back to the community. Employers can list jobs starting for as little as $50 for two months. (www.disabledperson.com)

Abilityjobs.com states that they “are the leading website dedicated to employment of people with disabilities” and “the largest job board for job seekers with disabilities.” They have been providing employment services on the internet since 1995 as a division of ABILITY Magazine, a publication dedicated to health issues. This website requires registration prior to viewing employment opportunities. (www.abilityjobs.com)

Although not exactly a job board, the U.S. Federal Government has a wealth of information on their website, disability.gov, that devotes an entire section of resource links to career agencies, job centers and government assistance programs for the benefit of job seekers. These resources can be searched by specific state at https://www.disability.gov/employment#map.

With the aid of the internet, job seeking has become easier for people with disabilities. Taking a few minutes to look over these websites may help you land your perfect job.
