2014-NDEAMNational Disability Employment Awareness Month

Congress initially declared the first week in October “National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week” in 1945. In 1988 the week was changed to a full month of recognition and the name changed to “National Disability Employment Awareness Month” (NDEAM). Despite the changes, the focus remains the same- to raise awareness of this group of people consisting of thousands of unemployed or underemployed individuals many of whom could make significant contributions to society if employers would be willing to adapt to meet specific needs.
