A Helping Hand along the Way

When you’ve been stranded or the victim of domestic violence, help is needed now more than ever. The following organization located in Los Angeles may be just what you need:

Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire has been the leading agency in the Inland Valley region since 1984.  Travelers Aid was founded in response to the difficulties facing settlers while moving to the West back during the Gold Rush and operates in the traditionsuitcase where “no one is a stranger here.”

They focus resources funded by many local agencies to provide a helping hand to the local community and to those needing assistance that have been displaced and/or disconnected while traveling away from home.  The primary objectives of Travelers Aid are as follows:

    • To reunite the stranded with their support systems
    • To get victims of domestic violence to a safe haven
    • To provide information and referrals to the traveling public at LA/Ontario International Airport

To meet these objectives, Traveler’s Aid offers assessment and counseling by professional casework services to individuals and families in crisis. They also provide resources to link people to other appropriate services in their community, reconnection to family or other means of support, travel planning and financial assistance. Because of their close proximity to major transportation hubs, Travelers Aid is often the first contact for victims of domestic violence. For those who are eligible, Travelers Aid can also assist with a planned relocation to a safe, supportive environment.

Although these services are often targeted towards distressed travelers, Travelers Aid understands that people may become displaced and disconnected from their normal support systems for many reasons. Their services are also offered to homeless families, victims of crimes, families and individuals in crisis and individuals with mental illness or medical and healthcare needs.

In addition to providing traveler assistance, Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire also offers Medical Transportation services. Through this program, Travelers Aid contracts with a transportation provider to offer free transportation to medical-related appointments for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities who live on fixed incomes.

For more information about Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire, call (323) 644-3500 or visit their website at http://www.travelersaidie.org/.
