 Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority exists to provide affordable housing options and services for all eligible families, elderly individuals and those with special needs. This organization strives to not only provide affordable housing options, but options that are also both safe and nice-looking. AMHA is chartered by the State of Ohio and is a public agency.

To apply for housing, you would begin the process by attending an orientation at the AMHA Central Office. Two orientations are conducted every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sign in begins at 8:00 a.m. for both the 9:00 and 1:00 orientation. If the 1:00 orientation is not full after the 8:00 a.m. sign in, additional applicants who sign in by 1:00 p.m. may be seen. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

 The Crisis Center provides Central Alabama with free and confidential support, crisis and suicide intervention, community information and referrals through telephone counseling. Their goal is to listen and assist individuals who are experiencing personal crisis or mental health issues and encourage and support those individuals. The Crisis Center also strives to promote community outreach and provide education on important issues within the community. There are several programs that have emerged through the Crisis Center. These programs include:

  • 24-hour Crisis & Suicide Line
  • Rape Response
  • Kid’s Help Line
  • Teen Link
  • Senior Talk Line
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Facility
  • The Mental Health Association
  • Representative Payee Program

The Crisis Center primarily serves the following counties in Central Alabama: Blount County, Jefferson County, St. Clair County, Shelby County and Walker County. In addition to those five counties, The Rape Response program also serves Chilton County.

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) Afterschool Care Program is a state-funded program that offers Georgia teens innovative out-of-school activities. DHS recognized that positive youth development practices are effective strategies for helping youth prepare for and transition into young adulthood. The Afterschool Care Program is open to youth ages 6-19. The purpose of the DHS Afterschool Care Program is to enable every child to have access to quality, inclusive, affordable after school activities that meet the needs of the child, the family and the community. Dedicated to helping those in need throughout the West Cleveland area, Walk of Faith Community Center offers a variety of services and programs to help families and individuals enhance their quality of life. As a non-profit faith based charity, Walk of Faith Community Center strives to connect families, individuals and the community with the resources they need. Services available through Walk of Faith are provided to residents of the 44111 and 44135 communities who meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) regardless of their religion, race, age, sex or marital status. Individuals eligible for Walk of Faith’s services can receive assistance through the following programs and services:

Food Pantry: Through partnership with Cleveland Food Bank, Walk of Faith’s food pantry offers dry foods, refrigerated and frozen foods, bakery items, fresh produce and toiletries. The pantry is open every Wednesday from 6pm until 8pm.

Donation Center: Open to the public, the FREE donation center offers a variety of clothes, coats, shoes, socks, bedding, baby items and toys.

Hot Meals Program: Offered during the summer, Walk of Faith provides breakfast on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays through their Hot Meals Program. Breakfast is served from 9am until 10am.

Youth Drop-In Center:  The Youth Drop-In Center serves as a safe place for teenagers to help them mature and develop into healthy productive adults. In addition to providing recreational activities, the Drop-In Center offers free refreshments, homework assistance and adult supervision.

In addition to their services and programs, Walk of Faith partners with the Cleveland Food Bank, Hannah’s Socks, Ohio Benefits Bank, Soles 4 Souls and Adventist Community Services to further assist families and individuals in need.
