With a mission to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, Shelby Residential & Vocational Services, Inc. (SRVS) has served as a beacon of hope for over 50 years.  As West Tennessee’s largest service provider for individuals with disabilities, SRVS strengthens both families and the community by offering comprehensive care to individuals with disabilities in a supportive environment. Known by their reputation of providing quality services and providing individuals with options and opportunities, SRVS offers several services and programs that assist individuals in becoming active and helps them to accomplish their own goals and dreams.  Services and programs offered through SRVS include:

To be eligible for services through SRVS, individuals must have a disability, be a resident of West Tennessee and meet eligibility conditions as established by the Tennessee Division of Intellectual Disabilities Services.  To determine eligibility for SRVS, individuals must submit an application; complete a psychological examination as well as a vocational evaluation. Once eligibility for SRVS has been determined, individuals are granted admission on a 90-day trial basis to evaluate the appropriateness of the placement, the individual’s interest in the program and the time for all to adjust.

As a non-profit community health center, Birmingham Health Care (BHC) has been serving the communities of Birmingham and Jefferson County for over 25 years. With a staff dedicated to providing quality health care, BHC offers a variety of services and programs to assist patients in meeting their healthcare needs. Realizing that it is becoming harder for individuals to afford private health insurance, BHC offers its wide range of services to families and individuals regardless of their ability pay. With accreditations from the Joint Commission, the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation and the Department of Human Resources, BHC offers the following services:medical doctor

  • Medical Services – Includes: Urgent Acute/Primary Healthcare, Diabetic Testing & Treatment, Nutrition Counseling, Radiology Services, Women’s Healthcare, Childhood Immunizations, Physical Examinations, TB Screening, HIV Counseling/Education & Testing and Chronic Disease Management.
  • Dental Services – Includes: Primary & Preventive Dental Services, Routine Check-ups, Restorations, Fillings, X-rays, Crowns, Bridges, Partials and Tooth Replacements.
  • Black Lung Clinic – Serving as the only Black Lung Clinic in the state of Alabama, BHC seeks out active and retired miners or other individuals with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) as well as other occupationally related lung diseases such as Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema.  
  • Pharmacy Services – Through their Rapid Care Center Fill Pharmacy, BHC provides offers over 300 discount prescriptions to patients and members of the community. BHC also administers a Patient Prescription Assistance (PPA) program through the pharmacy.
  • Behavioral Health Services – Includes: Case Management Services, Mental Health Services, Child Development, Substance Abuse Treatment, Employment & Training, Housing Services and Eligible Assistance Services.

Services offered through BHC are provided to all individuals and/or members of the family, Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm. Appointments are not necessary.

Serving as a centralized assistance agency for the Slidell/Pearl River area, Community Christian Concern (CCC) is dedicated to helping individuals and families in meeting their emergency needs. With a mission to “touch one life at a time”, CCC offers hope and guidance through a variety of assistance services and programs. Through CCC, individuals are paired with trained counselors to discuss and assess their request for emergency assistance. Based on their need, CCC provides clients with a variety of short-term solutions to meet their critical needs. These solutions include the following services:

  • Food & Clothing Assistance
  • Prescription Assistance
  • Household Items
  • Emergency Travel Assistance
  • Homelessness Assistance

CCC counselors may also provide clients with a variety of counseling services as well as referrals, advocacy and linkages to other local agencies and providers.

In addition to offering emergency services to those in need, CCC also operates a thrift store that is open to the public and provides quality clothing at an affordable price and a men’s transitional housing program that gives men the opportunity to rebuild their lives and fosters hope for a better future.

The organization is committed to helping people make personal choices, gain independence and achieve social change through education, advocacy and outreach. Disability Network believes that people with disabilities must be empowered to take control over their own lives. The organization encourages each individual to apply choice and self-determination to their lives.
