The California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program serves the southern part of California, and offers discounts for income-qualified customers. CARE is funded through a rate surcharge paid by all other utility customers. If you qualify for their services, CARE will provide a 20% discount off of your monthly electric and natural gas bill. Along with the 20% discount, CARE also offers a $15.00 discount on the Service Establishment Charge, for those who qualify and are approved within 90 days of starting new gas service. After your completed application is approved by Southern California Gas Company, you will then receive your discount.

If you or another person in your household is currently receiving benefits from any of the following programs, you may qualify for CARE services:

  • Medi-Cal/Medicaid
  • Food Stamps (SNAP)
  • TANF (AFDC)
  • Women, Infants & Children (WIC)
  • Healthy Families Categories A&B
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

The Gateway Rescue Mission, of Jackson, Mississippi has celebrated over 60 years of service “as a beacon of hope to the least of these.” This organization offers many different assistance programs for those in need, which include:

  • An overnight shelter for men, which can house 50 men at a time
  • A feeding program that offers three meals a day for anyone in need
  • New Life Program, which includes the organizations New Life Center, located in Magee, MS. with room for 30 men
  • Thrift stores in both Pearl and Magee
  • Immediate future plans, to develop a women’s and children’s program to meet the needs of the growing number of homeless women and children in the area.
  • Community food pantry
  • Long term rehab for the addicted

Gateway Rescue Mission’s hours are from Monday-Friday: 8:30 am-5:00 pm. The shelter hours are from 5:00 pm-5:00 am.

Meal schedule: Breakfast-5:00 am, Lunch is served at noon and dinner is served at 5:00 pm.

Concerned About Your Child's Development?

Help Me Grow of Cuyahoga County, located in the Cleveland, Ohio area is a one-stop center for information and referral for children with special needs under the age of three. All children grow and develop in their own unique way. However, when a child misses an important milestone or when you have concerns about their development, Help Me Grow is available for you.

To get assistance from Help Me Grow, the organization can arrange for an evaluation. If your child is found eligible for services because of a delay in development or a medical condition, Help Me Grow can connect you to a full range of programs. These programs include services such as:

  • Speech and Hearing Services
  • Nutritional Counseling,
  • Mental Health Services
  • Physical and Occupational Therapy,
  • Special Needs Child Care
  • Parent-to-Parent Support Groups.

If you have a child who shows signs of delayed development, and they are over the age of three, you can contact your local school district for more information. Every Public School District is required to provide free and appropriate education to identified children with disabilities ages 3-22 who reside in their school zone.

An Open Door of Hope

 Here’s an organization that offers hope, compassion and assistance to individuals and families in the Atlanta, GA area:

Warehouse of Hope Ministry in the Atlanta, GA area is an organization that exists to assist families and individuals in the community who are unable to 1178513 samaritanfulfill the most basic necessities of survival. Warehouse of Hope offers a food and clothing assistance program for those in need. The organization has successfully been able to serve over 1,400 families in a single week. Warehouse of Hope has an open door policy for families and individuals in need and will distribute bags of groceries and supplies to those people.

In order to receive Warehouse of Hope services, individuals will be asked to complete a short orientation that describes the services available through the Warehouse of Hope. You MUST call ahead in order to schedule an appointment. During the orientation, individuals will also be asked to provide basic information such as their household income and household size.

Services provided through Warehouse of Hope are available to families and individuals in need of assistance who live in the following counties: Paulding, Douglas and Cobb.
