Crossroads has two locations in Detroit, where they provide emergency assistance, advocacy and counseling to anyone in need.For the past 40 years, Crossroads has assisted individuals with food, transportation, clothing and the costs of identification and prescriptions.The Crossroad volunteer staff meets with those in need to discuss emergency situations and discover possible solutions.The Crossroads Soup Kitchen will be serving a Christmas dinner on Sunday, December 25 at St. John’s, Plymouth/ St. David’s. The hot meal will be served from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

The Real Life Center collects and distributes gently used clothing for both children and adults. If you are in need of winter items such as coats, gloves, hats, scarves or other articles of clothing, The Real Life Center is there to provide you and your family with these items.

The Real Life Center also offers food assistance for struggling individuals. Local businesses often donate bread and pastry products to the program. The Real Life Center also has a food pantry stocked with both perishable and non-perishable food items as well as paper goods.

In addition to offering clothing and food assistance to those in need, The Real Life Center also offers a variety of other assistance areas. These services include:

Don’t spend Christmas alone this year! If you’re a senior and are nutritionally at-risk due to an illness or disability, you may qualify to receive nutritious hot lunches through Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association’s (MIFA) Meals-on-Wheels program.  This Christmas, MIFA’s Meals-on Wheels program will be spreading holiday cheer by delivering Christmas Day meals to homebound clients who are spending the holidays alone. Through MIFA’s Christmas Day Meals-on-Wheels program, eligible homebound elderly, disabled or senior citizens are provided with a hot and nutritious meal, a gift bag and a social visit from MIFA volunteers.

Unfortunately for many families, the holiday season is not a time of comfort and joy.  Due to a variety of circumstances such as job lay-offs, family illnesses, disabilities or decrease in pay, many families are faced with hardships and financial burdens. Through their Neighborhood Services Program, St. Stephen’s Community House strives to help make the holidays bright for families in need throughout the Central Ohio area. Over the years St. Stephen’s Community House, in partnership with the Central Ohio Labor Council, has provided families with holiday assistance through their Christmas Care/One New Toy program  . The Christmas Care/One New Toy program provides families with a week’s worth of food and at least one age appropriate new toy for children from birth to age fourteen.  Gifts available through the Christmas Care/One New Toy program will be distributed to registered families December 17-18, 2011. Individuals who wish to receive assistance through the Christmas Care/One New Toy program must register for assistance through St. Stephen’s Community House.

In addition to offering holiday assistance to those in need, St. Stephen’s Community House also offers a variety of other assistance programs and services. These services include:

  • Early Childhood Care and Services
  • Family Services
  • Senior Services
  • Youth Services
