For over 51 years, the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation (BRSHF) have been helping Baton Rouge residents enhance the quality of their life. Through their services and programs, BRSHF aids and encourage individuals of all ages in reaching higher levels of independent communication and social interaction. Services offered through BRSHF are provided by experienced professionals and include the following:

Audiology Services: Offers testing and evaluations; hearing aids and assistive listening devices; specialized services; hearing protection and Cochlear Implant Assistance. Autism Services: Provides group language therapy and individualized discrete trial teaching to children who have been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Speech and Language Services: Provides clients with speech/language evaluations; individual language therapy; group language therapy; social language skills therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for children with hearing loss. Early Intervention Services: For children with developmental delays, BRSHF offers comprehensive developmental assessments; one-on-one special instruction and educational diagnostic services.

Through their Department of Aging, the City of Cleveland strives to be elder friendly by enhancing the quality of life for Cleveland's seniors by providing advocacy, planning, service coordination and the delivery of needed services. One of the most requested services offered by Cleveland's Department of Aging is the Utility Bill Payment Assistance. Through the Utility Bill Payment Assistance program, Cleveland residents are provided with information about several programs that are available. These programs include:

Homestead Program: The Homestead Program offers reduced water and sewer bill rates for eligible Cleveland residents. To be eligible for the program, residents must be over the age of 65 or be permanently and/or totally disabled as determined by a state or federal agency. HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program): Administered by the Ohio Department of Development, HEAP is designed to eligible low-income households meet the increasing cost of home heating. Through HEAP, eligible households will receive a one-time payment or credit that will be applied to their energy bill. The amount of assistance received will depend on an individual's household size and income as well as the primary fuel that is used to heat the home. Emergency HEAP: Administered through local community and social service agencies, Emergency HEAP provides energy assistance to eligible households who have been threatened with a disconnection, those who are disconnected or those who have less than a 10 day supply or 25 percent supply of bulk fuel left in their trunk. Summer Crisis Program: Funded through Ohio's Office of Community Services (OCS), the Summer Crisis Program assist households in paying their summer cooling bills. Energy Assistance - Through LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program), families and/or individuals are provided with assistance to help offset the increases cost of energy.

Emergency Assistance - Offers crisis intervention services for families or individuals in need. Assistance is provided to help with utility bills, food, homeless prevention and work retention.

USDA Surplus Commodity (TEFAP) - Offers food assistance to eligible low-income households up to four times per program year through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).

Weatherization Program - Offers home renovation repairs to eligible households to help lower the cost of increasing energy bills.

Head Start Program - As a national school readiness program, Head Start provides a variety of services for low-income children between the ages of 3 to 5 and their families.

Neighborhood Service Centers - Provides safe and friendly environment for clients to socialize, participate in activities and receive assistance through ESP, Inc.

Home Delivered Meals - Through partnership with local churches, ESP, Inc. provides hot and frozen meals to homebound clients.

Employment & Training Services - Provides assist with job development, placement and retention.

Case Management & Counseling - Helps residents understand remove barriers between them and self-sufficiency.

Community Service Programs - Designed to increase community awareness through volunteerism and resident participation.

The following program offers several services to individuals in need throughout the Columbus, OH area: Basic necessities such as food and shelter are not easily accessible for many individuals due to unforeseen circumstances. Recognizing this, Faith Mission strives to help individuals by offering a variety of services and programs that provides individuals with basic necessities and much more. For over 40 years Faith Mission has provided individuals with emergency and/or temporary assistance while also helping them access long term solutions. Under the operation of Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio, Faith Mission provides assistance through the following programs:

  • Men's Shelter - Provides residents with a place to sleep and three meals a day. Individuals are also provided with hygiene products, limited clothing and case management services.
  • Women's Shelter - Women are provided with a safe place to sleep and three meals a day. The shelter also provides basic hygiene products, limited clothing and case management services. In addition to the emergency shelter, Faith Mission also provides permanent housing for women with mental and/or physical disabilities.
  • Kitchen and Food Services - Through their Community Kitchen, Faith Mission serves three (3) meals a day, every day of the week, to individuals in need.
  • Shelter Plus Care Program - Provides housing assistance to homeless individuals with disabilities.
  • Case Management Services - Residents work with case managers who assist them through the obstacles that may face. Case managers may help residents obtain and understand important records or documents and connect them to the available resources that they may need.
