Mission: Feed The Hungry

The following organization provides nutritional assistance to those in need throughout the Jackson, MS area: Seeing a rising need amongst the residents of the community, the Turning Point Mission Center created a Food Pantry Ministry. Through the Food Pantry Ministry, Turning Point Mission Center has provided nutritious food to those in need for over eight (8) years. In an effort to help relieve poverty-related hunger throughout their service area, Turning Point Mission Center strives to provide food to individuals who are homeless, the working poor, families and/or individuals experiencing a crisis and those who are in need of one-time assistance. The Food Pantry Ministry typically serves families and/or individuals twice a month on a regular basis. The food is usually distributed on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month and includes nutritional packaged, canned or frozen foods. Fresh produce such as potatoes, lettuce and other fruits and vegetables are also distributed when available. To qualify for assistance through the Food Pantry Ministry, individuals must contact the Turning Point Mission Center to receive an application. The Turning Point Mission Center strives to meet the nutritional needs of each applicant in a timely and professional manner. In doing so, all applications are processed within 24 hours from the time they are submitted to the Turning Point Mission Center. All Food Pantry Applicants must provide proof of identity as well as proof of their residency. Applicants will also need to provide proof of the number of individuals within their household. In carrying out their mission to serve all people, Providence places a special concern towards individuals and/or families who are poor, vulnerable and unable to afford their services. Through various financial assistance programs , Providence works with individuals and offers help to those who, based on their income and the size of their medical bill, demonstrate a need for assistance. Financial assistance offered through Providence includes the following programs:

Charity Care - Through Charity Care, Providence provides eligible poor or low-income patients with assistance for up to the entire cost of their medical bill. Assistance through this program is offered at no charge to the patients; however eligibility is based on income, assets and the size of the medical bill. Uninsured Patients with Means to Pay: Providence understands that not all uninsured patients will qualify for the Charity Care assistance program; therefore they offer the "Uninsured Patients with Means to Pay" program. Through this program, all uninsured patients receive a 64% discount on their hospital bills. The program also offers an additional 10% "prompt pay" discount for those who pay their bills on or before the date of their service. Discounts offered through this program are for hospital billing only and does not include elective services. Additional Assistance - In addition to offering the above programs, Providence also offers an extended payment option for those who do not qualify for any of the financial assistance programs. Providence financial counselors also assist patients in applying for Medicaid and other programs that may assist them in paying their hospital bill.

In addition to providing telephone crisis intervention services, CONTACT HELPLINE is also an initial point of contact to the entire range of available community resources. As the Information and Referral network for eight county areas, they connect individuals in need to other local agencies and services that provide food, shelter, clothing, financial assistance and a variety of other services.

CONTACT HELPLINE also offers a Reassurance Contact service for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. The goal of the Reassurance Contact service is to help senior citizens and individuals with disabilities to continue to live safely and independently in their homes as long as possible. Through Reassurance, program participants receive a daily call from CONTACT HELPLINE staff. The purpose of the call is to ensure that each program participant is okay and if needed, remind them of medications that they may need to take. Staff members also offers a listening ear and talks with each participant to develop a friendship with each participant so they won't feel alone.

The following organization offers housing assistance to families in the Atlanta, GA area: When faced with a financial hardship, supporting a family can become difficult and overbearing. With help from HomeStretch, low-income families can receive the support they need to get back on their feet and into permanent, sustainable housing. HomeStretch is a nonprofit agency in the North Fulton community that provides long-term assistance for homeless families and families on the verge of homelessness. Through HomeStretch families are provided with a safe and comfortable place to live while participating in support programs that promote self-sufficiency, self-reliance and stability. Programs offered through HomeStretch include: • Transitional Housing • Affordable Housing • Life-skills Training • Mentoring Services • Supportive Services Families who wish to apply for assistance through HomeStretch must contact the HomeStretch office and schedule an appointment to complete an application. Once applications are completed and submitted, they are screened by HomeStretch staff. Applicants who are determined to be qualified for assistance are interviewed and matched with a Family Coordinator and a Mentor Team who will work with the family throughout their time in the program. To be eligible for assistance through HomeStretch, individuals must:

  • Be homeless or in immediate threat of becoming homeless
  • Have custody of minor children
  • Work Full Time
  • Be drug & alcohol free
  • Be legally married (if a two-parent family)
  • Attend school or work in North Fulton County
