The following organization may be helpful to those with autism in the Tupelo, MS area: Autism is widely known as a developmental disorder that can have a variety of effects on an individual's motor skills, speech, language, communication and social skills. As the only agency of its kind in Northeast Mississippi, the Autism Center of Tupelo provides families with access to affordable treatment to help their children learn the skills needed to live a meaningful and independent life. With a staff who works one-on-one with children to target their unique challenges, the Autism Center of Tupelo offers educational-based services to children on the autism spectrum as well as those with other developmental disabilities. The assessment allows the Center's staff to develop individualized plans for each child. •Family Consultations - Offers consultations with families on a variety of autism related concerns. •In Home Services - To observe a child in their natural environment and make recommendations on home-based instruction, the Autism Center of Tupelo's staff works with families in their homes. •One-on-One - Using the core principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), the Autism Center of Tupelo works with individuals on a one-on-one basis to create a positive and rewarding learning environment. •Social Group Sessions - In an effort to promote peer interaction, the Center offers a social group session each morning for younger children (4 yrs and younger). The sessions teach children how to participate in group activities and how to take turns and play games. •Special Education Teacher Training - Offers staff training to special education teachers who work with children with autism or other developmental delays. •School Consultations - the Autism Center of Tupelo's staff works within the school system to provide staff training, implement behavior-improvement plans, perform functional behavior assessments and a variety of other services. •Parent Workshops - Teaches parents how to incorporate ABA and other positive techniques into their home environment.

Utility Assistance Programs

The following services may be helpful for families and individuals in the Columbus, OH area who are in need of utility assistance: Unfortunately, many people cannot afford to pay their utility bill due to the financial results of a severe illness or disability, having a low income or losing a job. In an effort to help those in need, The City of Columbus' Department of Public Utilities has established a few utility assistance programs through the Division of Power and Water. Following below are a brief description of the programs that are offered:

Special Payment Plans Service - Offers special payment plans before the shut-off date for those who are having trouble paying for their power and water bills. Senior Citizen Discount Program - Offers water bill discounts to income-eligible individuals, ages 60 and up. The person must currently live at the address where assistance is needed and have the bill in either his or her name or their spouse's. The program only serves single-family households with one water meter. A senior eligible for a senior discount is also eligible for a low income discount. However, an application must be completed for each program. Low Income Discount Program - Offers a 20 percent discount on water and sewer bill to those enrolled in one of more of the following programs: • Ohio Works First • Ohio Medicaid • Food Stamps (Ohio Direction Card) • Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) • Homestead Exemption • Social Security To qualify for the Low Income Discount Program individuals must complete an application for the program.
