Their goal is to create a better community and take ownership of the key issues impacting the community and to provide leadership in addressing those issues. As the oldest and largest Hispanic human services organization in Ohio, the committee provides several services throughout the year through five core programs. Helping those in Need

The following organization may be helpful for individuals with disabilities in the Atlanta, GA area who are in need of financial assistance: If you are unable to work due to a disability or the disability of a family member, chances are you and/or your family maybe experiencing financial strain. Clayton County Family Care (CCFC) provides several assistance programs for families and individuals of low-income households that will help them achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. These services include short term financial assistance with rent, mortgage, utilities, food and prescriptions. To determine eligibility for these services, individuals in need must schedule an appointment for an interview with CCFC. Approval of assistance depends on an individual's residency, household income and the availability of funds. Individuals are not guaranteed the approval of assistance prior to an interview with CCFC and are required to bring proof of their financial need. Those in need of prescription assistance are seen on a walk-in basis. To be eligible to receive assistance individuals must be seen by a doctor and provided with a valid written prescription. The prescription assistance program is offered through a joint partnership with Christian's and Wilson's Pharmacies. Jumpstart to Independence

The following organization may be helpful for individuals with disabilities in the Birmingham, AL area and are in need of assistance: United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham (UCP) has several programs for individuals with disabilities. This organization's vision is one in which the world will understand disability to be a common part of the human experience, neither defining nor limiting. Their slogan is "Life without limits for people with disabilities." UCP originated in 1948 and has been providing services to infants, children and adults with disabilities ever since. UCP offers several programs intended to encourage independence, decisions and improve the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities. These programs include:

• Adult Program - designed to promote independence based on individual requirements. Some services provided through the Adult Program are: Nutrition, Personal Care, Recreation, Socialization, etc • Health and Wellness Program - designed to provide medical, dental, optometry, physical medicine, and rehabilitation services to people with disabilities • Hand In Hand Children's Program - designed to provide a distinctive learning experience for children birth through four years of age. Hand in Hand consist of three programs: Early Intervention Program, Early Learning Program and Childcare Enhancement witha Purpose. • Employment Services - assists individuals in gaining, learning, and keeping a paid job

Alliance for the Needy

The following organization may be helpful for individuals with chronic illnesses or disabilities in the Columbus, Oh area and are in need of assistance: LifeCare Alliance is an organization located in Columbus, OH that assists the elderly and chronically ill individuals. There are several different programs that help people remain independent while staying in their own homes and achieve a sense of dignity throughout the community. Here is a list of programs that LifeCare Alliance currently offers: Meals On Wheels Columbus Cancer Clinic Dining Centers Help-at-Home Groceries-to-Go Senior Farmer's Market Project OpenHand Visiting Nurse Association Senior Wellness Center They also offer a free six week workshop for individuals with chronic illnesses. The program is called "Healthy U" and has been proven to help those with asthma, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and other lifelong conditions. The workshop teaches individuals how to communicate with their doctor, gives relaxation tips, deals with negative emotions, helps individuals discover ways to become more physically active, shows them how to eat well, set goals and manage their symptoms and improve communication skills with others. To help relieve the strain, Life Gate Ministry of Mobile, AL offers various services to the elderly as well as individuals with disabilities who are in need of assistance. Services offered through Life Gate Ministry include rent, clothing, medical needs, prescriptions and counseling. They also offer limited utility assistance for individuals in need of help with their bills.
