Did you know that a healthy mom is more likely to have a healthy, full term baby that has less of a chance of having a disability? The Public Health Department of Montgomery County has a prenatal program, Healthy Mommy-Healthy Me, available for those who need some help staying on track to keep themselves and their baby healthy.

Healthy Mommy-Healthy Me begins for a woman usually just after hitting the two month mark of their pregnancy. The program provides nutritional counseling, medical and lab services, breastfeeding classes and more patient education until moms-to-be are about eight months pregnant. This time period may last longer if there are risk factors such as maternal and fetal health issues present. Women in the program who are considered to be at a high risk are referred to a high risk obstetrician within the community.

Although Healthy Mommy-Healthy Me is not free, the program does accept Medicaid, CareSource, Amerigroup and Molina.
