familySSDI Pay to Dependent Children

If an adult qualifies for Social Security disability their dependent children may also receive a small monthly stipend. In order to qualify for monthly benefits based on the parent’s disability, the child must be under the age of 18. If they are still in high school the age limit is increased to under 19.

How much?

The amount the child will receive is based on the disabled parent’s monthly benefit amount, usually one-half of the parent’s benefits up to a maximum family benefit.  The maximum family benefit amount is calculated at 85% of that parent’s average indexed monthly earning (AIME).
