Social Security disability benefits are long term benefits, and substantial evidence is required over a period of time before benefits are awarded. The process takes a long time, requires a lot of documentation, and often requires appealing an initial denial in order to get benefits awarded. After spending weeks putting together your application, Social Security will take 4-8 months to review your claim and make a decision.
