Lupus is a disease that results in the body’s tissues coming under attack from its own immune system. Lupus is also described as a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect many different parts of the body. Joint or muscle pain may be controlled with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, and anti-malarial medications may be recommended to treat fatigue, inflammation and other symptoms.

Immune-suppressing medications are often used to help the immune system normalize. Lupus patients may also be encouraged to adjust their lifestyle and behavioral habits to promote optimum health with exercise, diet and preventive care.
